Honolulu, Hawai‘i —Congratulations to Sophia L. ’27 for earning 1st place in the Hawaiʻi Branch of the English-Speaking Union (ESU) National Shakespeare Competition! This marks the second consecutive year that a Mid-Pacific student has claimed the state title.

Last year’s Hawaiʻi winner, ‘Eleu Lukey ’25, went on to place in the Top 10 nationally and is now studying theatre at Northwestern University.

This achievement also reflects the strength of the Mid-Pacific School of the Arts Theatre Program and the remarkable mentorship of coaches Linda Johnson, CoCo Wiel, and John Wat, who consistently cultivate confidence, artistry, and excellence in our students.

Sophia will travel to New York City in April to represent Hawai‘i at the National Competition. We are so proud of her accomplishment and wish her the very best on the national stage!
