Grade 5 Capstone Projects: Celebration of Learning

Grade 5 Capstone Projects: Celebration of Learning
Mid-Pacific Communications Staff

Our grade 5 students are in the final stretch of their elementary journey and are busy preparing for their culminating academic milestone: the Fifth Grade Capstone Project. On Thursday, April 24 from 5:30-7 p.m., the elementary campus will transform into a vibrant gallery of identity, creativity, and growth with students’ displays and presentations reflecting their journey as a learner, and a testament to Mid-Pacific’s inquiry-based academic approach.

Now in its 20th year, the Capstone Project has evolved along with Mid-Pacific’s educational pedagogy of Deeper Learning. What once focused on broad, external topics has transformed into deeply personal inquiries centered around the essential question: “Who am I?” Students spend the year exploring this question through memoir writing, identity webs, and creative projects ranging from family cookbooks to crocheted symbols of their passions. Each artifact captures what students have learned and who they are becoming.

A current sixth grader, Rex K., joined Dr. Edna Hussey, PS and ES Principal, to talk about the Capstone Project with HI Now Daily in preparation for this year’s Celebration of Learning.
