Mid-Pacific’s eSports team Overwatch 2 - Owls White won their second consecutive championship title at the Vanta Hawaii League eSports Championships, held at Hawaii Pacific University’s eSports zone at Aloha Tower. Truly a team effort, the Mid-Pacific students constantly communicated and strategized during game play with team captain Zach Nishida ’24 advising his teammates and leading the group to achieve their goal.

“The hardest part of the match was staying positive and hopeful, even when we were one game away from getting knocked out of the semi-finals,” said Nishida. “But as team captain, it was the challenge I had to navigate to advance and reach new heights.”

Congratulations to the Overwatch 2 - Owls White team members Sean Izustu ’25, Alyssa Kim ’24, Kyler Lum ’25, Tyler Miyoshi ’25, Zach Nishida ’24, and Allen Obciana ’25, who are all members of Mid-Pacific’s eSports Club. Mid-Pacific’s eSports Club, now in its third year, is administered by Technology and Engineering Program Head Danelle Landgraf.

“When I see the collaboration, communication and strategy that goes into playing these games just like any other sport, I can see how much they enjoy it,” said Landgraf. “For these kids that don’t play other sports, it provides them with important opportunities for competitive team interaction without being on a field or a court.”
