Connecting Through Culture: A Journey of Identity and Tradition
Our 8th-grade students recently completed a month-long unit on culture and identity in Social Studies! The project began with students identifying various aspects of their culture, including ethnicity, values, beliefs, nationality, place of residence, traditions, and interests. To celebrate our diverse community, they shared family recipes that held special meaning—whether it was a dish made for holidays or an activity shared with a loved one. These presentations will be paired with personal narratives written in Language Arts, and all the recipes will be compiled into a special Class of 2029 cookbook.
Students also reflected on how cultural traditions help us connect, the power of storytelling in preserving heritage, and the challenges of maintaining these traditions today.
