3 Days Into a Good Beginning

While I donʻt know how students are faring with back-to-school routines on the homefront after the 2-week holiday break, I can speak to what weʻre observing when students are on campus. Once they have emerged from your car at morning autoline dropoff, many students have been walking confidently and eagerly to their respective areas, looking straight ahead. They easily display the desire to socialize, whether interacting with one friend or five or fifty. The human need to connect feeds their social-emotional development every time they enter the school setting where belonging to and taking an active role in a community is the lived curriculum.

This was the first day of 2023 on campus. In some classes, a review of the expected norms of behavior or social agreements to begin the new year.

In every classroom before teachers and students get down to "business," there is important time to re-connect in the space of play where anxieties are reduced, minds are cleared, and a getting-ready-to-learn frame of mind takes shape. Students can also read, draw, write, improve math skills on digital apps. The key here is student choice, and students are highly capable of making good choices

Kindergartners were eager to share their journals -- writing and drawing --where they documented daily happenings with an attentive audience. Any questions or comments?

At the faculty meeting this week, we reviewed upcoming events and tasks related to ongoing program improvement in order to plan our time with students more effectively and efficiently. Parents, itʻs wise to continue your weekly reading of the myPueo newsletter posted every Sunday and to check your childʻs classroom teacherʻs page or blog and emails so that you can also plan ahead.

A short yet very busy three days on the return to campus. An entire semester is about to unfold; letʻs be prepared to receive each day in the new year with the mindset of an openness to possibility and positivity.

E Kūlia Kākou! Letʻs strive and aspire together!

For our children,
