The Joy of Reading: The Beginning of Book Clubs in Noio Room 3
“Your present circumstances don't determine where you can go; they merely determine where you start.” – Nido Qubein
In elementary classrooms, the new year presents a wonderful opportunity for 3rd and 4th graders to engage in setting “refresher goals.” This activity not only rejuvenates their enthusiasm but also instills valuable life skills early on.
Our class started by drawing and discussing their accomplishments and challenges from the past year. This reflection helped them understand what they've enjoyed and what they might want to improve. Each student wrote a new goal on a paper labeled "2025" and listed a way to achieve this goal. Breaking goals into smaller, achievable steps makes progress visible and rewarding. I encourage my students to revisit their goals regularly, allowing them to adjust as needed. This teaches adaptability, a crucial skill in their development.
In Noio Room 3, we constantly cultivate a Growth Mindset. We celebrate both successes and mistakes as learning opportunities. This mindset fosters resilience and encourages a love for learning. Engaging my students in this goal-setting activity helps them build confidence, develop a sense of responsibility, and understand the value of perseverance. By nurturing these skills early, we lay the foundation for lifelong growth and achievement.
Happy New Year, everyone!
