Spirit Soars
This past week our students experienced “school spirit” as it relates to sports. Joining in the spirit of the activity might be setting aside inhibitions and immersing yourself in the wave of school pride. For our young students, it meant participating in school activities like donning a silly or favorite hat to school, wearing “wacky” mismatched socks, or dressing in school colors of green and white. “Spirit” is feeling connected to something larger than ourselves, having a sense of belonging, and knowing that you are valued as part of a community. School spirit is a deep sense of pride.
Cheerleaders and the entire boys and girls basketball teams pumped up the excitement for Homecoming…
…and even joined the students for lunch and recess.
At the Homecoming games this past Friday, I could see, feel, and hear school spirit! Not just the thunder of cheers whenever the basketball teams scored a point, but the expressions on the faces of the Mid-Pacific community. Jubilation! Excitement! Pride! I was so proud of the team players who were our students since preschool and elementary and now exuding passion, spirit, pride on the court — Tori Tokuda, Samantha Hirasaki, Rylee Elizaga, Jolie Taura, Tyler Kawamoto, Tyler Miyoshi, Pakela Wheeler, and Jayden Noghrey. The scores were MPI 51 vs. Punahou 33 for the girls and the boys, MPI 49 vs. University Lab School 66. These students and their teammates inspired school spirit and school pride.
