Busy and Fun Week

Busy and Fun Week
Kelley Hitomi

It’s a good thing the children have two weeks off of school because our last week was extremely busy. What were the kindergartners doing all week long? Well let me tell you. Besides writing thank-you letters to their family members that attended our Grandparents’ day, the children also had to write a letter to their grandparents who were unable to attend. A few had to finish putting their lei together for their grandparents who lived far away.

But it didn’t stop there. We had two assemblies. Why two? Mr. Lenec had a very special guest fly to our island and work with the children. Have you ever heard of Mr. John Farrell? He is a songwriter, author, and peace educator. The entire preschool and elementary school sang, It’s the Little Things, one of Mr. Farrell’s songs, during our grandparents’ celebration. All the children were so excited to meet and sing with him during our Wednesday’s assembly. But wait! On Thursday, Mr. Farrell taught music. The children had a wonderful time singing and learning from Mr. Farrell. Throughout our last two days of school, the children would hum or sing when working in the classroom.

On Friday, we had our very first Spring Festival. We started on the lower campus with games, snacks, and an obstacle course. Even though it rained, the children had a wonderful time.

We were off to our classroom for a group photo and lunch. I’m surprised the children didn’t need a nap after eating pizza, mac and cheese, and ice cream. Once the children were finished with lunch, we were off to play more games and other fun activities. Our day ended with a churro and a goodbye.

I just wanted to thank Ms. Jayme for organizing and ordering the food for our first Spring Fest. The kindergartners had a wonderful time.

Enjoy your Spring Break. If you have time, please have your child read and write a little during the break.
