Research Schools International bridges the gap between research and practice by partnering researchers with a diverse network of schools around the globe to carry out research, professional development, and dissemination of findings. Through our innovative 'research schools' model, researchers collaborate with administrators, teachers, and students in partner schools on topics chosen by the schools. Most of our projects focus on supporting students' character skills and dispositions, such as care, growth mindset, grit, motivation, happiness, and global understanding.

Mid-Pacific was the eighth school to join this prestigious international network, and as the only school representative in the Pacific region, is focusing on Global Education as our area of research and practice. Thanks to our partners at Research Schools International, several Mid-Pacific faculty are chosen each year to act as research fellows, conducting original field research in their respective areas of discipline.

CyArk

CyArk is dedicated to the preservation of cultural heritage sites through the CyArk 3D Heritage Archive, an internet archive which is the repository for heritage site data developed through laser scanning, digital modeling, and other state-of-the-art spatial technologies. Founder, Ben Kacyra, created CyArk in response to increasing human and natural threats to heritage sites, and to ensure the "collective human memory" is not lost while making it available through modern dissemination tools like the internet and mobile platforms.

Mid-Pacific is a certified CyArk Technology Center, bringing the latest 3D reality capture technologies to all grade levels. With CyArk's expertise in the growing field of digital historic preservation, Mid-Pacific students are using state-of-the-art 3D laser scanning technology, data collection and processing methods in multiple courses. Thanks to CyArk, our students are able to not only study Hawaiian history, they are able to "capture" it, preserve it, and share it with the communities in Hawaii and around the world.

East-West Center

The East-West Center promotes better relations and understanding among the people and nations of the United States, Asia, and the Pacific through cooperative study, research, and dialogue. Established by the U.S. Congress in 1960, the Center serves as a resource for information and analysis on critical issues of common concern, bringing people together to exchange views, build expertise, and develop policy options.

Through a unique partnership with the East-West Center, Mid-Pacific students regularly attend Center exhibitions and discussions with experts on geopolitical affairs in the Asia-Pacific region. Our students also have unique access to visiting diplomats and State Department officials.

Bishop Museum

Bishop Museum was founded in 1889 by Charles Reed Bishop in honor of his late wife, Princess Bernice Pauahi Bishop, the last descendant of the royal Kamehameha family. The Museum was established to house the extensive collection of Hawaiian artifacts and royal family heirlooms of the Princess, and has expanded to include millions of artifacts, documents and photographs about Hawai'i and other Pacific island cultures. Today, Bishop Museum is the largest museum in the state and the premier natural and cultural history institution in the Pacific. It also has one of the largest natural history specimen collections in the world.

Mid-Pacific students will assist the Bishop Museum in the digital preservation of Hawaii's historic treasures, using advanced 3D laser scanning technology and sharing the resulting 3D images with the Museum and with the educational community in Hawai'i.

Polynesian Voyaging Society

Founded on a legacy of Pacific Ocean exploration, the Polynesian Voyaging Society seeks to perpetuate the art and science of traditional Polynesian voyaging and the spirit of exploration through experiential educational programs that inspire students and their communities to respect and care for themselves, each other, and their natural and cultural environments.

Mid-Pacific believes strongly in the Polynesian Voyaging Society's (PVS) message of Mālama Honua ("to care for our earth"). As partners with PVS, Mid-Pacific is supporting the voyage of the Hōkūle'a by creating and sharing a mobile app, designed to bring the worldwide voyage to life in classrooms around the state of Hawai'i. With the support of our partners, Mid-Pacific students and teachers -- using state-of-the-art 3D laser scanning equipment -- have also started the process of scanning and digitally preserving treasured voyaging canoes to ensure that future generations can study and engage with this vital cultural resource.

Exploring, developing, designing, and measuring the effects of non-traditional learning projects and programs is what we do. We believe this is best done by working with a wide variety of people with expertise in many areas. We believe that when children and teens are given the tools and opportunities to pursue topics of interest in a flexible environment they create things of value. Foundry10 is a catalyst for the intersection, development, and implementation of ideas that enhance creativity and learning experiences. We challenge ourselves and those we work with to think more broadly about what it means to learn and what learning should look like.

Mid-Pacific is expanding its Reality Computing program through an innovative Virtual Reality study, supported by foundry10. Through a gift of Virtual Reality (VR) developer kits and intensive training from different VR manufacturers - all supported by foundry10 - Mid-Pacific faculty and students will have the opportunity to expand their VR skills, allowing them to capture the world around them and become VR storytellers and computational thinkers. Our innovative VR study will help other schools around the United States learn how VR can become a part of interdisciplinary programming.
