In what's probably the most competitive boys air riflery state tournament in its eight-year history...
the Punahou boys air riflery team captured the HHSAA state crown by a mere two points ahead of runner-up and defending state champion Waiakea at the Neal Blaisdell Exhibition Hall on Tuesday, Oct. 31.
Senior Scott Hong led the way for the Buffanblu with 529 points and a tie for first in the individual championship, but lost in the tie breaker to take second overall. Mid Pacific junior Jordan Muratsuchi was declared the individual champion by winning the tie-breaker — the last 10 shots in kneeling competition.
The boys individual championship was in reach for each of the top ten finishers. The difference between first and tenth was a matter of nine points. Nicholas Allen '07 took 16th place for MPI (out of 65 competitors) with a total score of 507.
