"At the heart of this show is a message about impulse control," says Director CoCo Wiel. "Alex the lion understands that it would be a disaster to give in to his natural desires. Although his friends are unaware of his struggle, they do not allow his strange and unusual behaviors cause them to abandon their friendship."

Based on the smash DreamWorks animated motion picture, Madagascar - A Musical Adventure JR. follows Alex the lion, the king of the urban jungle. He is the main attraction at New York's Central Park Zoo. He and his best friends - Marty the zebra, Melman the giraffe and Gloria the hippo - have spent their whole lives in blissful captivity before an admiring public and with regular meals provided for them. Not content to leave well enough alone, Marty lets his curiosity get the better of him and makes his escape - with the help of some prodigious penguins - to explore the world. Their adventure leads them to island of Madagascar and find themselves in the middle of the wacky untamed world of King Julien and the lemurs.
