Atmospheric Carbon Dioxide On the Rise

Curriculum Snapshot: Environmental Science

Posted on April 27, 2017 by Scot Allen

Students in Ms. King's Environmental Science class worked with atmospheric carbon dioxide data taken from 1958 to the present by scientists working at the Scripps Institute. This data has been gathered daily on Mauna Loa for the last 59 years. Each student team graphed a decade's worth of data. Here, you can see the trend as atmospheric carbon climbed from 315 parts per million (ppm) in 1958 to more than 400 ppm today. On the right, Gio is pointing upward... the trend line climbed up the wall and onto the ceiling. -- Liz KIng
