Argument and Rhetoric

Posted on November 8, 2016 by Scot Allen

In Argument and Rhetoric, students are preparing to write a classic argumentation essay. This essay requires students to first gather researched material, which then leads to writing a claim. As a first attempt at practicing writing claims supported by facts, students researched the positions of our Presidential candidates. They researched the positions of each major candidate on three topics - immigration, taxes, and police relations with urban minorities. These facts were written on the whiteboard. Students developed claims based upon these facts. Not only was this a useful gateway exercise to begin this particular writing assignment, but students also came away more informed about this important election. -- Roland Nipps
