In collaboration with the University of Hawaii, Mid-Pacific took part in the OPIHI research program, gathering real data on the algae and invertebrates found in the intertidal zone. The program included two weeks of preparation and training in sampling methods and organism identification and a half-day field trip to Sandy's Beach. Students then analyzed the data before forwarding all the information to UH. "Working with UH students on authentic data collection and analysis really motivated our students to work to a very high standard and I am very proud of our contribution," Ashford said.
