Integrated Science Rate of Reaction Lab

Posted on January 15, 2016 by Scot Allen

Students in 9th grade Integrated Science conduct Rate of Reaction experiments to model how temperature, concentration, and agitation affect the kinetics of a starch and Potassium Iodide solution. In the presence of Iodide, the starch solution turns purple. Students worked on experimentation skills and practiced lab safety. Rayce Kojiro observed the similarity of this experiment with the earlier glow stick reaction. Reina Maglasang noted how different variables affect the speed of reactions. Monika Maeda said, "Water is good for drinking but reduces the concentration of reactants and slows our experiment down." -- Kymbal Roley
