This year's middle school theme is peace; 2015 is also the 70th anniversary of the ending of World War II. To commemorate the event the 7th grade class of 2021 held a "Sit in for Peace" on Thursday, August 27, in the gym.

The students listened to cast members from the play "Peace Beneath My Wings." The cast members (fellow 7th graders) shared the story of "Sadako and 1000 Cranes." The novel is a true story about a Japanese girl named Sadako who was stricken with leukemia after the bombing of Japan. She set out to fold 1001 cranes before she died. Although she did not complete the task, her friends did so in her honor.

After hearing the story, the 7th graders were given the task of folding 1001 cranes. Once the cranes are completed they will be strung together and placed out on campus to celebrate the ending of the war and the resulting peace.
