More than 700 Mid-Pacific Elementary and Middle School students, parents, teachers and staff sent kites aloft into the Manoa Valley winds this morning. Kite Day is a tradition that dates back more than 100 years; the boys at Mills Institute (which was merged with Kawaiaha'o Seminary to create Mid-Pacific Institute) began to stage a spring kite flying event that was attended by the community.
New this year, Middle School students partnered with their Elementary School buddies to learn about and then fly the kites. The smiles-per-capita quotient today was off the charts. 105 years and counting!
