During the 2016-2017 school year, the Mid-Pacific Museum Studies class made a new community partner with The Friends of Iolani Palace, the organization that runs and cares for the historic palace, its grounds and collections. Our 11th and 12th graders spent the fall semester working with the curators of the place to help digitally preserve a few of their artifacts with the use of Artec light scanners.

The poi supper table was presented to King Kalakaua by his wife, Queen Kapiolani, as gift for his 50th birthday. The table resides at Iolani Palace and is on display in the Queen's bedroom for visitors to view.

The Friends of Iolani Palace work to preserve, restore, interpret, share and celebrate the unique cultural, historical and spiritual qualities of Iolani Palace and its grounds for the benefit of Native Hawaiians, the people of Hawaii and the world.
