Come and hear Betty Staley's dynamic presentation, How To Survive Adolescence in a Media-filled World. Teenagers today face challenges unknown before, inundated with media wherever they look. Parents are confronted with constant decision making: whether or not to allow ipod, iphone, video games, social networking, television, computer, text messaging, cell phone, and whatever other latest fads. Children and teenagers must be inwardly strong to find their way through the morass, and parents need support in making their decisions. We will explore ways to understand teenagers' relationship to media and how they can be the masters of it, rather than being mastered by it.
Betty Staley is an international teacher, author, and lecturer on education, adolescence, and adult development. She was a founder of the Sacramento Waldorf High School in 1974, and has been a Waldorf teacher for over thirty-five years. Staley directs the Foundation Year and Waldorf High School programs at Rudolf Steiner College. In addition, she has been active in programs for public school teachers and teachers of at-risk students there. She founded the Multi-cultural Committee of AWSNA.
