The students in grade 7 Social Studies are studying Oceania and the Pacific Islanders. Applying what they learned about the outrigger canoe, students appreciated the ingenuity of the Islanders as they constructed miniature canoes from African Tulip seeds. Successfully, all the canoes were able to float; however, surviving mock winds, currents and swells was a bit more challenging. In the end, working together and having fun made island navigation interesting for all. -- Kathleen Perreira
