Jordan Lam, a sixth grader at MPI, participated in the World Hong Kong 2007 Luminous Dragon and Lion Dance Competition along with his teammates from the Chinese Lion Dance Association.
The Chinese Lion Dance Association from Hawaii represented the U.S.A in Hong Kong at this competition January 4-8. This competition is like the Olympics of Chinese Lion Dancing and is held every two years. Hawaii's team competed against 13 other teams from around the world. The team performed a skit characterizing the lion while using their athletics jumping on top a group of 6-8 feet high poles. This sport requires artistry and athletics. The team has been featured on Pamela Young's Mixed Plate special in the last three competition they attended.
Jordan is one of the instrument players on the team. He has been working hard in practice after school and on the weekends. According to his parents, Jeffrey and KaNoi Lam, this was a good opportunity for him to experience competition in a sport in an all world competition. He also gets to meet other children from countries such as China, Macau , Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Holland. The US team placed sixth overall in this World competition in 2007.
