Pearl Harbor trip

The MPI sixth grade visited Pearl Harbor on Monday, Dec. 4.

Over the last few years, teacher Lisa Mah has cultivated a close working relationship with the education department at the Arizona Memorial. 1DSC02306.jpgThis year they invited our sixth grade to attend the 65th Anniversary Symposium at the Hilton Hawaiian Village. MPI was the only school invited to attend, so this was quite an honor. The students listened to Daniel Martinez, the historian/park ranger for the Pearl Harbor Arizona Memorial. The group also listened to a panel discussion of men who were stationed at the Opana radar station in Kahuku. They are the ones who first detected the incoming Japanese planes that were mistaken for the incoming US B-17 planes. After the symposium, the students visited the memorial.
