
Six of Mid-Pacific's best athletes were honored Wednesday, May 20, at Atherton House. The six have all received scholarships to attend colleges and universities.
Marcus Holyfield is the son of Anthony and Nobuko Holyfield. Marcus entered Mid-Pacific as an eighth grader. He has played basketball since he was five and is an all around player. In addition to being a strong athlete Marcus plays the percussion and bass guitar. Marcus has signed to play with California Maritime Academy.
Matthew McDaniel is the son of Randy and Gina McDaniel. Matt began playing baseball at the age of 3. He entered MPI in the seventh grade when he began his MPI baseball career as a left handed pitcher and first baseman. Matt is a member of the school's Interact Club and he was selected to participate in the MPI Athletic Leadership Program. He has signed to play with San Diego State University.
Kylee Pedro is the daughter of James and Leiann Pedro. She entered MPI in the ninth grade and began playing volleyball in the sixth grade. She is an adaptable and hard-working player. Her love of the game has inspired her to volunteer as both a coach and a referee. Kylee is a dancer in the MPI hula halau, Pupukahi. She has signed to play at Chaminade University.
Hayley Young is the daughter of Allen and Anne Young. Hayley began her studies at MPI in the sixth grade. She has been playing golf for ten years and has represented the State of Hawaii in a national tournament in 2007. Hayley is a member of the school's Red Cross club. She has signed to play for Boise State University.
Toshi Nakasone is the son of Ken and Renee Nakasone. He entered MPI in the sixth grade and he is a member of the Peer Education Program as well as a dancer since ninth grade with Pupukahi, the MPI hula halau. He has signed to play Volleyball at Graceland University.
Gavin Kinoshita is the son of Miles and Colette Kinoshita. Gavin entered Mid-Pacific as a seventh grader and has been playing baseball since he was five. He worked with the Junior Owls Baseball Camp where he helped coach, run drills, and led workshops for elementary students. Gavin has signed to play with California State University Monterey Bay.
