For those of you whose children were in my class last year, welcome back! For those of you who are new to my class, I'd like to send a warm aloha and welcome you to my class blog. Each week you can read a new blog and see all the adventures we will have this year!
Students share a book
Reading to the class
This week we began a new school year. What an exciting time! New friendships to spark and old ones to rekindle. The theme throughout the week was building our community. The students explored their classroom surroundings, tried out class materials, and began to become familiar with their new classmates. It is crucial for us to form a strong class community early in the year so that students feel safe, comfortable, and included in their class environment.
Learning names and faces
Students also began to learn the class routines such as checking-in in the morning, the daily schedule, and how to access class materials. Learning the routines will enable students to easily flow through the day and maximize their academic and social skills. Additionally, routines help alleviate any anxiety students may feel being in a new setting with new people.
Let's build something together!
I'm so excited for this new year. Even in this first week I can already sense the joy these kids have for wonder and discovery. I look forward to working with these vibrant young minds as we go on our learmmg quest through the school year.
