Even as the students become more confident and capable mathematicians, they have questions and may need refreshers along the way. Our goal is to put the learning in their hands. We are showing them examples of where to find the information, both through resources we have created and ones from the internet.
As many of you are aware, we have a 5th grade website: http://mpi-5th.weebly.com. The site is password protected, please ask your child for it. On that site, we provide them information about the day's activities and the schedule. We provide the homework for the week. We also provide resources for them to use at home and at school. On the math resource page, we have videos that we have made and a video from Khan Academy.
We also are asking the students to choose their level of math practice to work on. They are required to practice math for 10 minutes 4 times a week (every other week because we alternate the focus between math and language arts). We want them to choose a level that is "just right," meaning, they need to pause and think before responding. If the student needs practice in certain areas, they are given that opportunity.
