The Fleet Reserve Association Essay contest: "What Memorial Day Means to Me" first place receives $5,000. Applicants must write a 350 word or less essay on the topic of what Memorial Day means to the writer. Deadline is December 1, 2016. National Spanish Exam Registrations On-going!
Registration is simple. Pay $8 for the Exam Fee at the school store under your name. Exams will be upon returning from Spring Break but you must register now.

University of Southern California Summer Program 2017: USC Summer Programs extends a tradition of excellence to outstanding high school students through unique 4 and 2 week summer courses. Accepted students to the USC Summer Programs will balance academic and campus life as they prepare for college in the nation's entertainment center - Los Angeles, California. USC Summer Programs' courses are taught by USC faculty and experienced professionals of the USC academic community. Summer Programs' faculty create an engaging academic experience by combining lectures, hands-on workshops and labs, guest speakers, and academic field trips to locations throughout Los Angeles. Each course is designed to be more interactive, engaging, and challenging than accelerated high school classes or the broad introductory courses offered by other summer pre-collegiate programs. The Rotary Club of Honolulu is sponsoring a Speech Contest. Prizes range from $3,000-$500. Application deadline is January 31, 2017. Interested students go to: honolulurotary.com or email administrator@honolulurotary.com for more information.

Building Peace Through Diplomacy National Essay Contest: Deadline is March 15, 2017. The winner receives $2,500 and a trip to Washington, DC to meet the Secretary of State and a full scholarship for a Semester at Sea educatonal voyage. There is also a runner-up prize as well. College Counseling

Hawaii Nuiakea's Native Hawaiian Financial Aid Fair for school year 2017-2018 will be held on Tuesday, November 22, 2016 from 5:30pm-7:30pm at Halau Inana ma Kapa'akea at 2438 South Beretania Street. Learn more about scholarships available for Native Hawaiians, ask questions and sit down with representatives for one-on-one help with financial aid with programs like OHA, Hawaii Community Foundation, Native Hawaiian Student Services, and more! SENIORS - Scholarship opportunities:
Hawaii Rotary Youth Foundation Scholarship: Deadline is January 31, 2017. FAFSA submission is required for this scholarship. Eligible candidates must be sponsored by ONE District 5000 Rotary Club, be a Hawaii high school senior who will be attending a 4 year college full time in the Fall, be a US citizen and legal resident of Hawaii. Selection is based upon academic achievement, scholarship merit, and financial need. Applications are available at hawaiirotaryyouthfoundation.org or from the College Center.

Filipino Chamber of Commerce of Hawaii Foundation Scholarship Program: Deadline is February 15, 2017. Applicant must be a Hawaii resident, have at least a 3.5 unweighted cumulative GPA and submit a complete application. Applications are available in the College Center or at www.filipinochamber.org. Must be involved in activities that benefit the Filipino community.

100th Infantry Battalion Legacy Organization Scholarship: Deadline is postmarked by March 28, 2107. Eligible students are seniors who are recognized for excellence in academics and community service, and also for their pursuit in promoting the legacy of the 100th Infantry Battalion so that others will value freedom, loyalty, patriotism, and trust. Applications are available at 100thlegacy.org or from the College Center.

For young Women who are residents of Windward Oahu: The AAUW Windward Branch Educational grant. Deadline: March 1, 2017. Applicants must be legal, Hawaii women residents of Windward Oahu who plan on attending college in the state of Hawaii. Applications are available in the College Center.

The Charles R. Kendall Scholarship: for students who are Hawaii Government Employees Association dependents. Deadline is January 13, 2017. Selection is based upon financial need, academic achievement, personal essay, and 3 letters of recommendation. Applications are available at hgea.org or from the College Center.

The Outrigger Duke Kahanamoku Foundation Scholarship: Deadine is March 1, 2017. Applicants must be participating in water sports (swimming, water polo, canoe paddling, kayaking, sailing) or in volleyball. Applicants must have a 3.0 GPA or higher and be involved in community service. Applications must be completed online at: dukefoundation.org.

The Jackie Robinson Foundation Scholarship: Deadline is February 15, 2017. To be eligible: must be a minority student, senior, planning on attending a 4 year college, dedicated to community service, minimum 1,000 SAT or 21 ACT, demonstrate Financial Need and leadership. go to jackierobinson.org for more information.

College Visits

We encourage you to attend the visits. They are an excellent opportunity to learn more about what colleges have to offer. New college visits are added daily. You can find the most updated list of college visits on Naviance (Family Connection) connection.naviance.com/midpac (under "Colleges" tab and click on "view all upcoming college visits"). If you will be missing a class, you must first ask your teacher for permission AND sign up at least two days in advance on Naviance. You will be responsible for any work missed. Please check the Daily Bulletin and Family Connection for updates and new additions. All juniors and seniors are welcome to attend. If you have any questions, please stop by the College Counseling Office.
