Tools for Online Note-taking and Outlining

  • EasyBib Notebook is a tool offered through EasyBib that lets you take notes online using virtual notecards, which you can organize and edit any way you like. It can also easily create outlines from your virtual notecards.  For details, see the "Using EasyBib" link in the section below.

Citation Guides for Students Doing Research Projects

  • The MPI Style Sheet for Research Papers [PDF] (updated 1/3/11)
    The MPI Style Sheet is a 6-page guide to citing sources. It is based on the MLA Handbook for Writers of Research Papers, 7th edition.
  • Using EasyBib (flash tutorials and guides)
    EasyBib is mainly known as an online citation builder. We have a school subscription that lets our students get premium EasyBib School Edition accounts, which have more features than the basic free version (plus no annoying ads). One great added feature is EasyBib Notebook, a tool for online note-taking and outlining. This page tells you how to sign up for a premium account and how to use EasyBib.

  • Help for MLA-style Formatting in MS Word
    Here you can find flash tutorials and tip sheets on how to do MLA-style formatting in MS Word (hanging indents, adding Header information, automatic page numbering, etc.) -- and also a checklist you can use to make sure that your paper is formatted correctly according to MLA style.

Turnitin.com

  • Student Directions for Turnitin.com [PDF] (updated 8/26/10)
    Turnitin.com is a Web-based service that MPI high school subscribes to that helps catch student plagiarism from either online sources or Turnitin's archiveof previously submitted student papers. Soon after student papers are submitted, an Originality Report is generated showing if any plagiarism has been detected.
