In the vein of my recent blogs on community building, this week's entry highlights our teacher aides! All of the aides are of Mid-Pacific stock. About one-third are Mid-Pacific alumni, another third from the high school, and the last third from the middle school. About a third are earning community-service hours, which is a graduation requirement from Mid-Pacific.
Every faculty member has one to two teacher aides. In their orientation meeting with me, I explained that they would be regarded as employees, holding them to the same high standards of professionalism as the faculty and staff. In my observations of the teacher aides in the classrooms, escorting our students between classes across campus, or assisting with supervision on the playground, I am so proud of the way our teacher aides have been meeting expectations. Responsible, punctual, understanding, patient, compassionate, imaginative, respectful, and fun -- these characteristics best describe our teacher aides. Our aides came up with the idea of Spirit Week to celebrate the last week of summer school, so please talk with your children about what they'll be wearing to demonstrate their school spirit. Monday is Pajama Day, so rise and shine and off to summer school in their pajama best. Expect one more blog next week with highlights of the exciting last week of summer school.
(Note: We have two more weeks of a different summer program called Extended Summer Camp.)
E Kūlia Kākou! Letʻs strive and aspire together!
For our children,
Edna L. Hussey, Ed.D.
