We welcome you and your child to a fun and invigorating five weeks of learning intended to enrich and strengthen your child's learning abilities and skills.  From iMovie production to Lego Robotics to Math Adventures and other classes, our summer school faculty has prepared a wide range of learning experiences for all students.  Your child will most often be working in small groups, though there will be many opportunities for some individual activities. Learning will be hands-on and collaborative, guided by an expert faculty who enjoy working with young children. We will be creating a new community of learners in five weeks!

Our summer school teachers hail from MPI and other schools locally.  They are familiar with MPI's educational philosophy and school policies.  They will be assisted by Mid-Pacific high school students and alumni (student aides).  Our full-time summer school Health Aide is Ms. Sumilao, who'll tend to students' medical needs (441-3807).  If you have any questions, please call the preschool/elementary school office at 441-3800.  Office hours are 7:00am - 3:30pm daily, except June 11 and July 3.

Our primary mode of communication with you will be through the MPI website, http://www.midpac.eduPlease read my weekly letter and your child's teachers' blogs, posted every Friday afternoon after 5:00pm through July 14.  Simply go to the elementary website where you'll see my letter.  Scroll down and find the teachers' summer school webpages. You'll be able to read updated highlights of the week in your child's summer sessions and any other information the teacher wishes to share with parents.  These summer-session "blogs" might also include photos.  In addition, your child will be taking home a manila packet every Friday.  It will contain a weekly assessment of your child's performance in the morning classes and afternoon sports camp (skills, behavior, attitude, and effort).  Please review the assessment, and have your child return the packet to the school every Monday morning.

A reminder about drop-offs and pick-ups:  All students should be dropped off in the turnaround area closest to the elementary office.  Drop-off begins only at 7:30am daily.  We do not provide any supervision prior to 7:30am.  Entering Kindergartners will be escorted to the dining room from the drop-off area.  All parents of preschoolers are required to walk their children directly to the preschool classroom.  Only preschool parents are permitted to park at the turnaround, except where traffic cones will be situated for drop-offs. Anticipate some traffic during drop-offs and pick-ups the first few days as everyone adjusts to the schedule.

Pick-up begins at noon at the same drop-off area. I strongly suggest arriving at the drop-off 5-10 minutes after your child's last scheduled session.  We will not allow parking in the turnaround and waiting for your child because this will cause a traffic jam.  Any children not picked up within 15 minutes of the end of their summer school session will be taken to Room 4, but there will be a charge for late pick-up.

Pack a healthy snack and beverage and lunch (if applicable) for your child.  Might be a good time to review the summer school handbook with your child.

A bright, fun summer awaits your child!  On behalf of the faculty and staff, welcome to summer at MPI!

For our children,

Edna L. Hussey
