Our first week of summer school — gone in a blink! It has been an exciting week for everyone. We’ve been making new friends, adjusting to a new learning environment, and learning how to work in collaborative groups. After visiting each classroom this week, I can attest to the varied learning experiences our students are having — from creating still-frame movies to building Lego robots to newpaper writing to challenging math adventures and more.
In the “Afternoon Camp,” either until 2:30pm or 4:45pm, students are grouped by grade level and participate in physical education (Mr. Kissida), art (Mr. Okuhara), Theater (Ms. Haworth), and/or computers (`Ohana Komputers). Children are on the go from the time they set foot on campus!
Every Friday, check your child’s backpack for a manila envelope (the Friday packet), which will contain your child’s weekly evaluation and any additional information from your child’s teacher. The Friday packet is the main vehicle for communicating with every family. You can find my weekly principal’s letter on the school website at www.midpac.edu/elementary every Friday, so after this week, no hard copies will be sent home. Mr. Williamson, Ms. Doherty, Ms. Vitarelli, and Ms. Sawyer will also post their class weblogs each Friday (no hard copies after this week). Here are their URLs:
If you would like to be notified automatically about any website updates, please sign up on the main page of the elementary web page. The other summer session teachers (Ms. Byrne, Ms. Lorenzana, Ms. Ikehara, Ms. Roth, Ms. Getz/Ms. Oshiro, Ms. Harstad, Ms. Correia, and Mr. Black) will continue to send home hard copies of their class newsletters in every Friday packet.
Enclosed are two important documents. Please sign the Transporation/Excursion Form and return it to school by Monday, June 18. Please carefully review the Summer School Handbook.
• Drop-off begins at 7:30am. If your child is dropped off earlier, an adult or older sibling must be with your child until 7:30am. We do not provide supervision before 7:30am.
• If you are picking up your child before 3:30pm, you must enter the school through the main office and check in. The gates remain locked for security purposes. After 3:30pm, the gates will be opened.
• All completed medical forms and authorization for pick-up forms should have already been turned in to the office. If we do not have either form by Monday, your child will be asked to return to the school office until you pick up your child and until you have submitted these completed forms. We will begin calling you today as a reminder if these forms have not been submitted.
• You can help us expedite the pick-up of your child at the 12:00pm autoline by placing the bright green sheet with your child’s name on the dashboard of your car. (It should have been issued to you by the Summer School office.)
Thanks for your cooperation with all of the above. I hope your children are sharing what they’re learning with you daily.
Happy Father’s Day, dads and granddads! Celebrate a well-deserved day in your honor!
For our children,
Edna L. Hussey
