Artist Henrik Van Ryzin '90 visits campus

MPI ceramics teacher Daven Hee invited Mr. Van Ryzin to campus Friday, March 12, 2010.

"Henrik came to talk to my ceramic classes," said Daven Hee. "I thought that they would find it interesting to hear what a former MPI student was doing in art. Recently Henrik started creating stories for his tiki mugs. The tiki mugs are made out of ceramics and I thought that the students would find hand building interesting. Check out his website! Each object has its own page and story."

Born and raised in Hawaii, Henrik Van Ryzin began his artistic career making rubber movie monsters in Hollywood. The call of the islands proved too strong though, and after a brief stint hunting Obake in Japan he returned to Oahu in 2000. When not sculpting VanTiki mugs, Henrik happily toils away at his "day job" doing illustration and animation with Ms. VanTiki.
